Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how VolcanoByte (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with USA Driving Test Prep (the “App”).

The App is an independent educational resource. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to any Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), licensing authority, or government agency.

1. Information we do not collect

The current version of the App does not require an account and does not ask you to provide personal profile information. We do not currently collect sensitive personal information such as government identification numbers, driver’s license numbers, precise location, contacts, photos, health information, or payment card details through the App.

We do not sell personal information.

If you voluntarily contact us by email, we receive the email address, message, and any information you choose to include. We use that information only to respond, provide support, protect the App, or comply with legal obligations.

2. Data stored locally on your device

The App stores study progress and preferences locally on your device. This may include your selected language, theme, state, reminder settings, practice history, exam results, favorite questions, and questions marked as incorrect.

This local data is used to operate and personalize the App. VolcanoByte does not receive it from the current version of the App. Your device operating system or backup provider may include app data in device backups according to your device and cloud-backup settings.

You can remove local data by using available reset controls, clearing the App’s storage where supported, or deleting the App. Some operating systems may retain data in backups or when an app is offloaded rather than fully deleted.

3. Notifications

If you enable study reminders, the App may request permission to schedule local notifications at the time you choose. Reminder preferences are stored on your device. Local notifications are generated by your device and do not require us to collect your personal information.

You can disable reminders in the App or change notification permission in your device settings.

4. Analytics — Firebase Analytics

The App may use Firebase Analytics to collect aggregated usage metrics that help us improve the App, understand which screens and features are used, and identify experience problems. These metrics may include screen views, feature interactions, app version, device type, general session activity, and non-sensitive study-result totals.

We do not send the full text of questions or answers, personal study content, email addresses, payment details, API keys, or other sensitive personal information to Firebase Analytics. We do not use a real user ID because the App does not require login. Google may process limited technical identifiers according to platform settings, our configuration, and its own terms and privacy documentation. We do not sell personal information.

5. Crash and error reporting — Sentry

The App may use Sentry to diagnose and fix crashes and technical errors. Reports may include technical information such as device and operating-system details, App version and build, stack traces, and the route or screen where an error occurred.

We do not intentionally send full question or answer text, email addresses, API keys, payment details, or other sensitive personal information to Sentry. We do not sell personal information.

6. Purchases — RevenueCat

The App offers purchases and subscriptions and uses RevenueCat to manage purchase status and Premium entitlements. RevenueCat and the applicable app store may process purchase-related information such as an app-specific user identifier, product purchased, subscription status, transaction records, and store account region.

VolcanoByte does not receive your full payment card number. Payments are processed by Apple or Google under their own terms and privacy policies.

7. Advertising

The App uses Google AdMob to display ads to users of the free plan. Depending on your device, platform settings, consent choices, and our configuration, Google may process advertising identifiers, device information, an approximate location derived from an IP address, ad interactions, or similar technologies to deliver, limit, measure, and protect ads.

Premium users do not see ads. Free users may choose to watch a rewarded video to receive a limited period without ads. The expiration time for that benefit is stored locally on the device. We do not sell personal information. Google processes advertising information under its own terms and privacy policies, and device or platform privacy controls may limit the use of advertising identifiers.

8. Children’s privacy

The App is a general educational study tool and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required by applicable law to consent to data processing. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the current version of the App.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent personal information to us, contact us so we can review and delete it when appropriate.

9. Data sharing

Because the current App keeps study progress and preferences locally, we do not currently share that local study data with third parties.

We may share limited information in the future:

  • with service providers such as Google AdMob, RevenueCat, Firebase Analytics, and Sentry when their services are enabled;
  • when required to comply with law, legal process, or valid government requests;
  • to protect users, our rights, security, or the integrity of the App; or
  • as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or transfer of the App, subject to appropriate protections.

We do not sell personal information.

10. Data retention

Local App data remains on your device until you remove it, clear the App’s storage, or delete the App, subject to device backups and operating-system behavior.

Emails sent to us are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for support, security, recordkeeping, and legal obligations. If future service providers process information, their retention periods will depend on our configuration, operational needs, applicable law, and their service terms. We will update this Policy when relevant.

11. Your choices

You can:

  • use the App without creating an account;
  • change or delete locally stored preferences and progress using available App or device controls;
  • enable or disable study notifications;
  • manage purchases and subscriptions through App Store or Google Play settings;
  • use device privacy settings for advertising controls where available; and
  • contact us with privacy questions or requests relating to information you have sent directly to us.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the App, our service providers, or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and may provide an in-app notice when changes are material.
